BLOG for entire Trimester1; this is how I always do my blogs... Thank you

Fields/8th Language Arts/WEEK 1

Students: Any one of these dates/expectations could change due to unforeseen circumstances… We could get so involved in a discussion one day that we fail to move ahead at the predicted pace, I could be absent, we could have a different schedule, etc.  The best way to use the blog and your agenda is to look ahead always; see what lies AHEAD.  If you do not look ahead and plan, you may come to class one day unprepared.  Once I hand out the day-by-day tracking of the course, you will have all dates for the first trimester and insert them into agendas.

IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: You always need to look a week and a half to two weeks ahead in this due dates packet and on your agendas to keep up with assignments in near future and due dates.

SUMMARY:

This week we will be doing a little bit of “housekeeping” during the first few days… I have several documents to hand out re: upcoming assignments; we will enter a few dates on AGENDAS, talk about the weekly BLOG, teacher policies, student expectations, intruder drills, fire drills, AED’s location in case of emergency, etc.  Here is how the breakdown of the entire first trimester will look:

M. 8-14  all blks: Students will collect  handouts that will be used primarily in trimester 1; have syllabus signed and returned to me by class on August 21 for a 100 quiz grade; copy MLA format from board to be used on all typed/submitted writing assignments.  You will be using this throughout high school and college. Copy all format, print type/size and margin information and use on all typed and submitted work.  We should discuss drill procedures, my policies, your agendas, etc.  You should start work on vocab unit 1 exercise.  I will not check these in class this year; however, it is up to you to do the work in each unit.  You may come in any morning before school – except Fridays – to check your answers.  I will show you how/where…  I will try to assign Personal Museum (on-level due 9-1) and Analogues(Honors due  8-25) papers.

HW: vocab, roots &

T. 8-15  1,2,4: students will collect additional handouts; go through handouts; class policies; load agendas; read through syllabus; drill procedures; chat about summer reading and SP discussions; you should be working on vocab unit 1; I will try to assign Personal Museum (on-level due 9-1) and Analogues(Honors due  8-25) papers.

You should be working on vocab unit 1.

HW: by now you know that vocab and roots are ongoing work/learning; you plug in whatever else you need to be working on at this point; look ahead in agenda by at least a week and half and work ahead…

M. 8-21 All blks:  Quiz over A Separate Peace.  In your next class meeting, have all Separate Peace summer work (questions, terms and illustrations) with you; also, you need to type 5 questions that you have about Separate Peace; in addition; type 5 quotes that you found most interesting, most challenging or most enlightening.  You MUST use MLA documentation!!! I will show you a hypothetical example: “It was the summer of my discontent” (Knowles 48).  However, if you quote dialogue, you use a third quotation mark to show it is already a direct quote in your primary text: “’Finny, I have to study tonight’” (Knowles 48). Bring these questions and quotes to class each day.  NOTE: On first day of class, you picked up a packet (“How to put quotations into essays”) that shows you proper MLA documentation for various other citation situations.
