Sept. 4-7 CHANGED DUE DATES:

DUE DATES CHANGE FOR LABOR DAY WEEK; AMEND AGENDAS.

The administration decided NOT to have ALL classes meet everyday this week; however, this decision was made after teachers had been told that holiday weeks would stay on track by having every class meet every day…  My due dates plans were done this past summer, so I did not anticipate such a change.  There are only a few differences, and these differences serve to the advantage in every case where a change occurs:

Tues:  Purple and Blue:  Roots 2 test; Separate Peace discussion/activity;  HONORS, THERE ARE NO ANALOGUES DUE!  Sorry, I did not mean to cause panic by forgetting to delete that assignment when I had to make an early change to due dates.

Wed.  Purple, orange and pink:  Only ornage and pink have Roots 2 test; Separate Peace discussion/activity.

Thurs.: Blue, orange, pink: “Thinking of Happiness” is due; I will make grammar assignment based on the error types I saw most frequently in the recently submitted papers; Separate Peace discussion/activity.

Fri.:  ALL classes: Vocabulary 3 test; find out what is on Separate Peace test; grammar.  LOOK AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK.  I love y’all… J

Friday, August 24, 2012

week 8-27--8-31

Mon.  8-27  ALL classes:  All students should come to class with: summer reading illustrations and questions/responses, and  SP book; each student will have about 3 minutes to show/explain his/her illustrations in order to full understand intertextuality; your answers to questions will not be turned in for a grade but will be used for class discussions/reflections.

HW: _________________________________________________________________

Tues. 8-28  Purple/blue:  Diction 1 test over first half of long sheet will be given (2o minutes);  for the diction tests, you should know how to spell each word, its denotation (definition), how to use in sentence/differentiate from its confusing counterpart(s); a discussion or activity re:   A Separate Peace.

HW: _________________________________________________________________

Wed.  8-29  Purple/orange/(pink):  Diction 1 test for orange and pink; see above (8-28) instructions/requirements for the diction tests; discussion or activity re: A Separate Peace;  be sure that all of you prepare for next class meeting: 4 quotes from A Separate Peace  that you thought were most interesting, challenging and/or revealing about the book.  These quotes do not have to be actual character dialogue, although they may reflect dialogue.  These should be typed and should reflect correct use of quotation marks and  MLA parenthetical documentations.  See the “how to do correct quotations” handout given the first day; you should also have typed on the same page two provocative questions about anything in the book.  Your questions and quotes will be used in part as guideline for discussions in class; do not conspire with a neighbor about what to choose – use your own brain!

HW: ___________________________________________________________________

Thurs. 8-30  Blue/orange/pink:  Blue needs to see/follow instructions above (8-29) re: 4 quotes and 2 provocative questions for next class meeting; we will have discussion/activity re: A Separate Peace.

HW: ___________________________________________________________________

Fri.  8-31  ALL classes:  25 minute vocabulary test 2; honors has epiphany in a natural setting (imagery) writing assignment due; we will have A Separate Peace discussion/activity; catch up with any loose ends from the week.

Thursday, August 16, 2012

8-21--8-24

Mon.  8-20  ALL classes: 20-25 minute test on Literary Terms (first half); blue/orange and (pink) turn in Personal Museum writing assignment and rubric.  NOTE:  You should always turn in rubrics with assignments; from this point on, I will probably not remind you.  An assignment without the rubric creates a hardship for me – and probably indicates you did not use the rubric as rubric should be used. We will discuss literary TRENDS – not same as terms – and structure of stories/novels; we will start examining trends via reading of short story, “The Story of an Hour.”  We need to also examine IMAGERY in the story.  I will try to give out imagery assignments to all classes: Honors will write an epiphany in natural setting; on-level will write “Thinking of Happiness.”  HONORS may have to finish a few orals.???

HW: ______________________________________________________________

Tues.  8-21  Purple/blue: If I did not give out IMAGERY assignment yesterday, I will do so today; we will also continue looking at  structure of stories/novels and  TRENDS in literature by examining “Story of an Hour.”

HW: ______________________________________________________________

Wed.  8-22  Purple/orange/(pink):  20 minutes/ Roots 1 test (you must know roots and meanings of roots and two words/definitions  from the list that shows you words with that root; these will be same instructions for every roots test; every roots test is COMPREHENSIVE); we will complete discussion of “Story of an Hour,” examining imagery, structure, trends, elements; ask any questions you have re: your writing assignments. If we did not get contextual reading learned on 8-15,purple needs to learn re: contextual reading problems on vocab tests, CTPs, PSAT, SAT. If I have not given the IMAGERY assignment (honors – epiphany and on-level “Thinking of Happiness,”) or if you were absent, I will do so today.

HW: ______________________________________________________________

Thurs. 8-23  Blue/orange/(pink):  Blue has Roots 1 test today (see time/requirements for this and all other roots test above in 8-22; if blue has not received the imagery assignment (“Thinking of Happiness”), you will get that IMAGERY assignment today; orange/(pink) finish discussion of “Story of an Hour,” examining imagery, structure, trends, elements; ask any questions you have re: your writing assignment; work on contextual reading exercises/how to do for vocab tests, CTPs, PSAT, SAT.

HW: _________________________________________________________________

Fri.  8-24  ALL classes: you have a quiz over A Separate Peace; honors class turns in analogue writing assignment; catch up with any loose ends from week.  I LOVE YOU!

HW: _________________________________________________________________

Look ahead to next week’s due dates so you can stay ahead of the game; remember to always check due dates and your agendas a week or so in advance.
