Dear Susan,

Thank you for your lovely note.  I think Zoey is extremely wise.  It is always time to make a friend.  Thank you my friend for reaching out to me.  I listened to your sermon and it was witty, informative and  from your heart.   It is a lovely testament to all of us who love teaching.  Eloquent, very eloquent.

I will remember to stay away from the beer isle, if I am in a store where Joe B might be shopping.  Thank you for making me laugh.

Have a wonderful day,

M

Good morning, Martha:

I did miss you in church yesterday and do hope for a quick return of your energy and pep…and of your beautiful smile…but tell Sheriff Ken that I think your house arrest was definitely called for… I know that you are disappointed by the change in plans re: surgery right now, but I feel certain that more of the same good results will delight you all – and hopefully make the surgery less difficult.  I hope that you were indeed able to attend the Los Ninos meeting yesterday --- YOU are Los Ninos, or so I used to look at you and think, "That's that great gal that heads up Los Ninos."  I recall hearing you speak a number of times.  Re: simulcast, next time you aren't in church, maybe I will have the choir do a Martha-wave J since you will likely be tuned in! Speaking of simulcast, if you want to know my passion, check out "Sound Teaching" when you have a moment on MVPC streaming:  I think it was one Sunday in October 2012, a day when Joe Bs sermon was about how we are all teachers and the about the difference between vocation and avocation. http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/25817809  (He caught me one Saturday at Publix – when I was buying a case of beer and had my hand in the cooler– and asked me if I would mind speaking!  What could I say?  I had been caught red-handed!  I readily agreed – anything to get us both away from the beer cooler ASAP…J  I was on the way to sail up at Lanier – and it was a HOT day!)) I feel so blessed to be a teacher – I love every day! BTW, I read about a week or so ago that AUDIOLOGISTS are among the top 5 HAPPIEST people – did you see that article?

I had the pleasure of sitting with Evelyn Allen yesterday during Holy Communion, and we had some time to chat before and after… ( I taught Evelyn's oldest son, Robbie, and her oldest granddaughter, Robbie's daughter, at North Springs; we go back a long way…  She is so much fun!  She happened to ask me what I thought about the new teacher insurance, as she had heard complaints from several retirees not yet on Medicare.  I said I had not used the new coverage yet but mentioned that you had run into some difficulty following your first infusion of the new year.  She spoke so lovingly of you, Martha, and keeps you in her prayers as do so many.  (I could kick myself for not having approached you much earlier and at least thanked you for all that you do, but as Zoey lets me know on every walk…anytime is the right time to make a new friend.)

I send you and Ken hugs, love and Shalom.  S

Hi Susan,

I received your wonderful card.  I am so sorry to have missed your student, last Sunday.   I returned from MD Anderson with a bit of a cold.  Ken had me under house arrest.  I will not likely be at church tomorrow either as I have very little energy and have promised to go to a Los Ninos meeting in the afternoon.  Some where between MD Anderson and my last chemo treatment, I have lost my normal return to energy.  I pray it returns, as I move from the couch to my chair in the kitchen and back again.  It feels very foreign.

We are going to see our twin grand babies this evening to see if I can't capture some of their energy.

I watch the simulcast when I am not at church.  It is so nice to be able to worship even if I am not sitting in my pew.

Many thanks for your steadfastness,

Martha

Shalom, Martha:

I imagine that you had an infusion – last one before surgery?? – on Tuesday, so I know day 3 is often a bad one…  I hope that today is not the case – and that today is a good day.  Much love to you and Ken.
